Into the blue

single-channel video and sound installation

17:47 mins

This project is supported by Cultural Moves Europe, SKE Fonds, Stadt Wien and BMEIA Austria.

In the blue is composed of video footages and field recordings of kite flute, recorded in Vienna, in Bologna during the Crexida Anima Fluó artist residency in August 2024 and in Cyprus during Xarkis Residency in September 2024.

Into the Blue invites contemplation on the dual nature of humanity—the potential to create beauty, goodness, and transcendence while also possessing the power to destroy both the world and ourselves. Central to this project is the image of the kite and its tranquil aeolian flute drone, symbolising the human mind, dreams, its desire for freedom and the poetry of the unforeseeable. While many today associate “drone” with pilotless aircrafts and the horrors of modern warfare, Into the Blue reclaims the ancient, calming drone sound, emerging from the interplay of human and nature. This drone opens a contemplative space and evoke a sense of peace, lifting the curtain of the everyday.

This project also reflects on the acceleration and fragmentation of the modern world, and our growing disconnection from nature, whether we realize it or not. The more we immerse ourselves in digital technologies, virtual realities, and AI-powered tools, the more it becomes important to recognize their impact and find balance between our digital and physical worlds.
