Parallel Asteroid

Electro-acoustic composed improvisation for saxophone/clarinet and synthesizer

“Parallel Asteroid” is a project by Siedl/Cao, a hybrid of electronic and acoustic sounds. The two sound worlds try to get as close as possible to each other, mingle and interact with each other. This project is a research into the interface of these two worlds, where the beauty lies between the naturalness and the artificiality, between the mysterious ambiguity and the hyperreality created by human-made and artificial artefacts.

The musicians are the Vietnamese pianist and synthesizer player – Cao Thanh Lan and Gregor Siedl from Austria on clarinet/saxophone, gamecalls and tubes. Parallel Asteroid have been touring extensively in Europe, Japan, Brazil, China, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Parallel Asteroid verbindet experimentelle, akustische und elektronische Klänge mit Elementen Zeitgenössischer Musik und kompositorischen Formelementen. Die Musik ist Resultat objektiver Klangforschung und expressiver Freizügigkeit, deren Energie sich aus der Spontaneität und Reaktivität des Zusammenspiels im Augenblick des Geschehens entwickelt.

Die Musiker sind die aus Vietnam stammende Cao Thanh Lan am Klavier, Analog-Synthesizer und Gregor Siedl aus Österreich am Saxophon, Tubes und Gamecalls.
Lan  kommt von der klassischen und zeitgenössischen Musik und Gregor  von der Experimentellen- und Improvisierten Musik. Der gemeinsame Nenner ist Komposition und Improvisation unter starkem Einsatz von erweiterten Spieltechniken, Verwendung struktureller Kompositionsvorgaben und neuen Ausdrucksformen menschlicher und un-menschlicher Gefühlswelten.

Das Duo war auf Tournee in Europa, Japan, Brazil, China, Taiwan und Vietnam.
